Divorce Mediation

Divorce Mediation Lawyer in Providence, Rhode Island

At my practice, John L. Quigley, Jr., P.C., I have served as a mediator in numerous divorce cases since 1997. I help divorcing couples resolve a variety of issues such as responsibility for children, property division, allocation of retirement funds and spousal support.

Mediation can achieve a resolution of these and other issues in a cooperative manner. It can minimize emotional stress, facilitate communication and offer other benefits that allow the parties to move forward after divorce in a positive manner.

The Divorce Mediation Process

Divorce mediation is non-adversarial, cooperative, and creative problem-solving aimed at a common goal — solutions that provide maximum benefits unique to your family. Mediation is designed to eliminate competition and hostility associated with divorce and has been shown to relieve stress, reduce costs and lead to longer-lasting agreements. The mediator, as a trained, impartial third party, helps to facilitate communication, suggests alternative solutions and aids in understanding all relevant information.

I am Jack Quigley, and I serve as mediator in these discussions. I have completed extensive training as a mediator and have helped many divorcing couples to achieve outcomes that work for them.

The Benefits of Divorce Mediation

A mediated solution can minimize the emotional stress experienced by the spouses and their children during the divorce process. Unlike an outcome dictated by the court, a mediated solution is created by the spouses themselves, and is one that recognizes and reflects the personal needs of each. It may be far less taxing, both emotionally and financially than a contested divorce.

Most importantly, it creates an outcome that is practical, workable and acceptable to both sides. The parties are freed to focus on the future, rather than dwelling on the perceived wrongs of the past.

Mediation may not be right for every couple. When the differences between the spouses' positions are too great or their bargaining positions are too unbalanced, then the more traditional techniques of negotiation or litigation should be considered.

As a divorce lawyer, I have extensive experience resolving divorce and related matters through mediation, negotiation and litigation. I can evaluate your situation and use a process that is tailored to achieve your goals.
